Where to get married on the Island of Elba

The Wedding Destination of Marie Helene and Luca: a religious ceremony at Santissimo Sacramento Church and a wedding party in the Archeological Museum of Linguella in Portoferraio.
Getting married on the Island of Elba is a unique experience. Elba is a large, yet human-sized Island, ideal for those who love tranquility, but also a spirit of adventure. It is an Island capable of offering glimpses of incredible beauty and very different landscapes, perceived in a mixture of emotions that instill a sublime respect for the many beauties of nature, for the monuments of history, for the ways of life. For these reasons, Marie Helene and Luca, the protagonists of this love story, decided to get married right here, on this strip of land surrounded by the sea. Both have Italian origins, but were born and raised in Switzerland, specifically in Geneva. Marie Helene has Elban origins, while Luca sicilian. Always attracted by insularity they decided to organize their wedding on an Island.
When I met them for the first time, I saw in their eyes the desire to get married in a church with a solemn religious ceremony and to organize a wedding party in an unconventional, but unique and exclusive, venue. That’s not all! Their idea was to celebrate an important event like the wedding with four days of celebrations. Theirs was infact a weekend wedding: on Thursday a Welcome Party was organised at the Roman Villa delle Grotte, an ancient Roman domus that stands on the promontory overlooking the Gulf of Portoferraio, which dominates the Portoferraio landing place, and the Roman Villa della Linguella inside which there is the archaeological museum, which closes the harbour on the other side, where the wedding party, curated for food and beverage, was organized by the famous catering Galateo Ricevimenti. Friday was the turn of an original and fun Pizza Night organized on Capobianco Beach and in the Restaurant with the same name, from which you can admire the Island of Capraia and sunsets, each time different, of rare beauty. But let’s go back to the wedding day and the church that Marie Helene and Luca chose for their wedding. Portoferraio, their favorite place, boasts a historical heritage of great importance not only for the presence of churches of particular beauty, but also for the numerous historical sites present. Among the most beautiful churches, the Chiesa della Misericordia and the Chiesa del Santissimo Sacramento are undoubtedly the most appreciated for the beauty of their decorations and for being located in the heart of the city.
Marie Helene and Luca might have considered another Church of particular beauty, the Chiesa di Santo Stefano alle Trane in Magazzini Zone (Portoferraio) but the number of their guests was too high for the capacity of this small country church. That of Marie Helene and Luca’s was an exciting wedding weekend always kissed by the sun, except for the wedding day. Fortunately, when the church left, the rain gave the newlyweds some respite, and fortunately they were able to build, despite the wind, A beautiful photoshoot in the heart of Portoferraio’s historic center, visiting the most characteristic and well-known sites such as Piazzale De Laugier, the Salita Napoleone leading to the Villa dei Mulini, Napoleon’s Residence during his exile on the island of Elba, the Molo Elba and the town’s narrow streets, before triumphantly arriving at the Linguella Archaeological Museum, the venue for the wedding reception.
Before choosing the Linguella Archaeological Museum, Marie Helene and Luca wanted to visit the most exclusive churches and wedding venues where they could organize a religious rite and a wedding party. Among my suggestions are the Hotel Hermitage overlooking Biodola Beach, the Hotel Villa Ottone, an ancient historic residence, the Roman Villa delle Grotte… What guided them for this difficult choice undoubtedly was the heart. So the Linguella Archaeological Museum was transformed for a day into the “party hall” where everything began with a rich aperitif and followed by a gala dinner. The setting up of the table and the tent structure illuminated by a beautiful starry sky made the wedding a thousand and one night event.
