TUSCANY – SAN GALGANO ABBEY AND SAN GIMIGNANO
Tuscany offers truly unique settings thanks to its extraordinary natural landscapes that blend harmoniously with art, culture, wellness, relaxation, and gastronomy. Equally exceptional are the venues for those wishing to experience a truly unforgettable Tuscan wedding. So it was for Giovanni, Italian, and Sky, Australian, who chose to tie the knot in a place that can be described as a treasure chest of history and legend in secret Tuscany: the Abbey of San Galgano in Montesiepi, a small village in the municipality of Chiusdino, in the province of Siena, about 18.6 miles away. A hamlet nestled within silent, verdant hills, where legend and mystery merge, creating one of the most evocative sites of Tuscan spirituality, where one can discover the ancient history of San Galgano and his hermitage which, together with the imposing ruins of the Abbey, form the most important religious and monumental complex in the area and one of the most significant examples of Gothic-Cistercian architecture in Italy, built between 1220 and 1280. Giovanni and Sky set off from San Gimignano, where they and their two daughters were staying and celebrating the wedding, aboard a gorgeous vintage car. Their ceremony, intimate and emotional, was accompanied by a piano with music by Ennio Morricone and Riz Ortolani. After the civil ceremony and the photo shoot, they left for San Gimignano, where they celebrated their love with a cocktail reception and dinner at the Agriturismo Il Palagetto, where a gazebo was set up featuring an impressive crystal chandelier under which they dined. The mise en place was curated down to the smallest detail, as was the setting, which, thanks to lanterns and numerous candles, created an enveloping and romantic atmosphere.
