ELBA ISLAND – FALCONE FORTRESS

Wedding in Elba

Forte Falcone, Forte Stella, and the Linguella Tower make up the architectural complex of the Medici Fortresses of Portoferraio, the ancient defensive system of the city of Cosmopoli (the name given by Cosimo I to Portoferraio). Designed by Giovan Battista Bellucci of San Marino and built under the direction of Giovanni Camerini, the complex was erected in 1548. Forte Falcone, a historic site of particular beauty thanks to its hilltop position, offers commanding views over Portoferraio on one side and, on the other, the sea stretching to the horizon with views of Capraia Island. Getting married on Elba Island is a unique experience, not only for the emotions felt on one’s wedding day, but also for the extraordinary landscapes the island offers. The wedding of Laura and Mattia, one of the few celebrated in 2020, was an emotional event: the ceremony took place on one of the bastions of Forte Falcone, where the gaze wandered across the sea and its ever-changing colors illuminated by the sun, which later set and gifted the couple and their guests with countless shades of yellow and orange… The cocktail reception and dinner were held in the Bar and Courtyard of the Fortress, set up, like the ceremony, in boho chic style. The courtyard, in particular, was transformed into a space with an ancient charm, blending different styles in perfect harmony: rugs, copper vases, Moroccan lanterns, pampas grass, small vases of simple flowers for the table, candelabra and countless candles, amber and fiery red lights. On the bastion above the courtyard, the Open Bar and the Cutting of the Wedding Cake took place, both curated down to the smallest detail. The organization of a wedding requires care and attention: every single aspect is important, from the set-up of the civil or religious ceremony to the mise en place, from the study and design of the spaces, where everything must be created from scratch, to the Cutting of the Cake, from the Confetti table to the Wedding Favor corner. Not to mention the music and the lighting, which help turn the event into a true work of art, where the hand of the flower and wedding designer becomes like a brush capable of “painting” countless shades of color and emotion.
