TUSCANY – VILLA LA PALAGINA

Countless couples dream of getting married in Tuscany: the so-called Cradle of the Renaissance offers a unique blend of art, nature, lush food, exceptional wine, and history. Tuscany conjures up images of the timeless charm of its historic mansions, and of ancient villages nestled among green hills clad with olive groves, vineyards, and long rows of cypress trees. One immediately thinks of the picture-perfect landscapes of Val d’Orcia and Chianti, of the medieval allure of Lucca and Volterra, of picturesque farmhouses and unique scenery. It is no coincidence that many entertainment and music celebrities and sports personalities chose the land of Dante, Petrarch, and Boccaccio as a location for their weddings. Not to mention the region’s time-honored food and wine traditions. Licia and Michael, a French couple, were looking for a venue where they could both celebrate their wedding and spend the weekend. Among the options I had suggested, they selected Villa La Palagina, located in Figline Valdarno, in the heart of Chianti, amidst olive groves and vineyards: this exclusive resort caught their eye from the start and proved to be their “Place of the Heart”. The villa, which dates back to the 16th century, once hosted noble Florentine families such as the Corsini and Ricasoli. It was, in fact, the country retreat of Baron Bettino Ricasoli, and it was while staying here that he contributed to developing the blend of Chianti Classico wine. Villa La Palagina is “casa comunale”, that is to say, a venue authorized to host legally binding wedding celebrations. This made it possible for Licia and Michael to hold a civil ceremony on the lawn in front of the ancient villa. Their heartfelt ceremony was followed by cocktails served in the lovely Italian style garden. Dinner was held in an elegant gazebo, with tables set with meticulous attention to detail which helped create a warm and cozy atmosphere. The party, illuminated by candles and disco lighting, went on late into the night.
